Exporting UML documentation from Together ========================================= (Last mod: 10-Oct-02, R.Cranfield) Together is a powerful tool for creating UML models, and comes complete with its own multi-window display facility. However, it is often required to incorporate parts of the UML description into other kinds of documentation or presentation. External files can be produced from Together in various standard formats, but different methods need to be used depending on the format required. Individual diagrams can be exported in GIF, WMF, SVG and PostScript. Complete model descriptions can be exported in RTF, PDF and HTML formats. Note, in particular, that WMF format can be used to import diagrams into WORD or FrameMaker documents in a scalable manner. The following details apply to the current version, 6, of Together: Under the "File" menu option there are three relevant options: "Save Image" saves the current diagram in GIF, WMF or SVG format. "Print Diagram" allows the current diagram, tree of diagrams, all open diagrams, or all diagrams in the model, to be printed, either directly to the printer, or to a PostScript file. "Print Documentation" prints the entire model description, page by page, either directly to the printer, or as a PDF file. (Note: the entire model seems to be printed, even if just the current diagram option is selected.) Two other relevant options are to be found under the "Documentation" sub-option of the "Project" menu option. "Generate HTML" produces a tree of HTML files which can be viewed with a Web browser, looking very much like Together's own internal display. "Generate Using Template" can be used to produce a set of documentation (which can be customised if necessary) in RTF, HTML or TXT formats. With the RTF option, diagrams are saved in separate files, which can be selected to be in either GIF or WMF format. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
